International Krav Maga Federation

Reasons for a New Organisation

Eventually, Krav Maga began to spread beyond just Israel, and with this growth in popularity, an issue arose. There was a need for the establishment of an international organisation. There were problems with the original association for Krav Maga based in Israel. – There was an atmosphere of dissent between higher up trainers of the martial art. With that came division and a lack of efficency to run properly. There was zero chance of this organisation being able to expand across the globe.

In 1997, the IKMF (International Krav Maga Federation) was founded. This allowed an increased organisation of the grading for Krav Maga practitioners around the world. This included a new curriculum, diplomas for masters and experts, levels and grades. These were all approved by Imi, the founder of the martial art.

The IKMF soon expanded to many different countries. It is now the largest and most respected institution for followers of Krav Maga. It is active within:

  • The founding country of Israel
  • Australia
  • The United States of America
  • Several countries within the European Union
  • Eastern Europe
  • Parts of Asia.

The Function

Within each of these countries the structure for these organisations are fairly similar. In each case, a director is responsible for the growth of Krav Maga within their region or country. Each organisation also has a team of instructors to teach the martial art., all of whom are highly qualified.

There are many different types of people that rely on the IKMF for training and education of Krav Maga. This does not just include regular civilians. Those within the military, security industry, and law enforcement backgrounds, are also taught by this federation.

It continues to grow as the go-to federation for learning Krav Maga. It shows no signs of stopping or decreasing activity any time soon.
